Mini Mason Jar Pies

Mini Mason Jar Pies

Dutch Oven:  12"

Serves:  6

6 half pint Mason Jars

1 package pre-made pie dough

1 can pie filling (Apple, Peach, Cherry, etc.)

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons butter

sanding sugar

Spray each jar with Pam.  Unroll the pie crust and using a cutter, cut 12 circles (for the top and bottom of each jar.  Cut strips the size of each jar.  Place a circle on the bottom of a jar.  Line the inside of each jar with a strip of the pie dough.

Spoon pie filling into each jar.  Fill to within ½” of the top of the jar.  If doing apple, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on top of the filling.  Next, add a small pat of butter on top of the filling in each jar.

Put the remaining dough circle on top of each jar.  Press the edge of the dough to form a top crust.  Poke a few holes in each pie top.    You can brush the top of each pie with a little egg but it is not necessary.  Dust with a little sugar.

Place all the jars on a baker’s rack in a Dutch oven.  Bake in a 375º oven for about 30 – 40 minutes with top coals. Keep an eye on the top crust to make sure it doesn’t get too dark.

Let cool and enjoy.  If you want to go extra crazy, top the pies with whipped cream or ice cream!
