Key Lime Trifle

Key Lime Trifle

1 box Vanilla cake mix
¼ cup lime juice
zest of 1 lime

Filling
8 oz cream cheese softened
14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
¾ cup lime juice
1-1/2 cups whipping cream
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix cake mix according to directions substituting ¼ cup lime juice for water. Pour into well greased 12” Dutch oven and cook over medium heat with top coals for 35-45 minutes. Allow to cool slightly then remove from oven and allow to cool completely.

While cake is cooking mix cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk and lime juice together well and set aside. Mix whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla and whip until soft peaks form. Refrigerate filling and whipped cream until ready to assemble cake to allow to set.

Cut cake into 1” cubes and begin placing a layer of cake in bottom of trifle bowl. Top with layer of filling then layer of whipping cream. Continue layering until all ingredients are used up.

Top with slivered almonds and lime curls.
