Burger Casserole

Burger Casserole

Dutch Oven:  12” or 14” (with 10” x 10” Corning dish)

2 cloves garlic chopped

1 tablespoon Butter

1-1/2 lbs ground hamburger (or venison or buffalo)

½ lb sausage

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1 med red bell pepper

½ jar of salsa – about 8 oz (optional) or 1 can Cream of Celery Soup (optional)

6 – 9 slices Provolone cheese

1 can home style biscuits (about 8 biscuits)

Seasoned salt

Coarse ground pepper

Garlic powder to taste

Preheat Dutch oven over a medium fire.  In a large skillet, sauté garlic in butter. Combine sausage and ground meat.  Mix salt, pepper and garlic powder with meat.  Brown the meat.  Remove from skillet, drain and return to skillet.  Add salsa and stir.  Add onions and peppers.  Cook but leave crisp

Spray a baking dish with non-stick spray.  Pour meat mixture into baking dish.  Place cheese on top of mixture.  Next, flatten biscuits by hand and place on top.  Bake for 30 to 35 minutes with top coals until biscuits are brown.

You don’t have to use a baking dish in the dutch oven but it will make cleanup easier.
